It’s been two years since the release of virtual reality equipment, but only few virtual reality games that can attract the attention of computer gaming enthusiasts appeared on the market. Most of these games are more like technical demo application than full-fledged games. While looking for ways to adapt the virtual reality for exciting and engaging games, you can try to turn back to the past and adapt the mechanics of older games. Therefore, that’s what we do with the “Eggs VR” project – we create a game, based on the classic game “Wolf and Eggs”.
The software was created using the “Unreal Engine 4” gaming engine. While the game supports both main platforms of virtual reality – “Oculus Rift” and “HTC Vive” – we recommend using the latter, as the game management tool uses a genuine basket with an attached sensor of the followed position, and the “HTC Vive” platform has motion-tracking controls and can be adapted to the “Vive Tracker” sensors.
Just like in the original game called “Wolf & Eggs“, the player has to catch the falling eggs. For each egg that the player catches, the player is given a point. However, unlike the precursor, the player is not given a penalty for eggs that the player does not catch. In this game the game duration is limited – in the given time it is necessary to catch as much eggs as possible and to register their result among the best. Unpredictable game mechanics, for example random, unusual eggs giving more points, slowing down the time and otherwise interrupting or helping the player, are added into the game.
