Special Handmade Paper With Added Value

Technorama 2018

As the economic level in the world keeps rising, environmental issues are becoming more and more relevant. The trends of the 21st century show that people are returning to the natural ecological materials, trying to economically and efficiently design new products. They are also returning to the long-neglected and outdated technologies. Among these is the production of handmade paper, which is currently being revitalized and promoted, with the greatest positive effect and added value to the product. In this way, the whole circle of the product cycle is taken into account. It inspired us to produce handmade paper and add different types of seeds into the mass of the paper.

By developing a regular press, designers are always looking for new and innovative ways to reduce the waste problem. Biodegradable paper solves this problem, but paper made from secondary raw materials with seeds in is already an innovation. After using the product, you only need to cut the flat strips (of 7×3 cm) and place them in pots. Then you can not only observe the stages of decomposition of the paper, but also admire the vegetation stages of the plant.            We are now testing 4 paper samples with different seed types. We are also observing plant germination and changes during the 50-day period. In the example, paper is planted together with beetroot, pepper and parsley seeds.

Currently there is a shortage of paper products in the Lithuanian market. Using this technology for postcards, information leaflets, gift vouchers or flyers, it is possible to introduce the products that add value and are environmentally friendly into the market. By using information leaflet, gift voucher or other product, and planting this paper, paper degradation and seed growth are observed. This extraordinary concept reminds us that all that is needed is a bit of creativity, because the used product is functionally recyclable and gives new life to a small sprout.
