Today, just like a decade ago, children and their parents face the same problem regarding the lack of education in personal finance. On one hand, the economic knowledge gained at school, albeit useful and cultivating, is, largely, only theoretical and poorly adapted to everyday life. On the other hand, personal finance operations, necessary to the pupils and even students in their everyday life, are too trivial. Often, such operations are monitored by parents and do not provide true personal finance knowledge that will be needed in the future. Young people, when they start a career path and plan their future, are confronted with the usual concerns of the adult world, and realize that they have not been properly prepared for misleading and foreign reality of personal finances.
Our solution is a simple mobile application Pocklet, with the help of which parents can educate their child to manage their personal finances and get to know the most important financial instruments. The application implements this goal in two main ways. Firstly, users of Pocklet mobile application will find high quality and fun lessons about personal finances, their tools and applications, prepared by professional educators and economists. At the same time, children will have the opportunity to do tests based on games and in this way test the material that they have learned. The correct answers will give them medals and points and allow to share the achievements with friends. The second direction of Pocklet is oriented towards practice – it is an opportunity to allow children to test simplified personal finance tools with daily allowances. Utilizing the benefits of open banking systems, Pocklet not only allows the parents to regularly and without additional difficulty transfer daily allowances to children’s account, but also creates a virtual parent bank, where young financiers are introduced to interest, savings, loans, taxes and other economic concepts that is a part of an adult’s routine.
The Pocklet project was awarded at a number events for start-ups and businesses: At a competition “Verslauk”, the idea of the application won the second place; at the Business Hive competition for the presentations of different start-ups, the presentation of this application won the main prize, and at the SEB Open open banking hackathon, Pocklet was awarded a special jury prize.
One of the most important advantages of Pocklet – a team that is professional and has diverse competencies. It consists of a graphic designer, a specialist in the field of fintech, project manager, programmer, lecturer of economy and game designer. Currently, an early prototype of Pocklet is created, the business plan is being actively developed, the co-operation with SEB Innovation Centre is taking place and we are always looking for new investors and new team members.
