Flag is an attribute of a state, a symbol of its statehood and independence, which since ancient times supported the fighting spirit of soldiers and was a landmark in the battlefield. The same applies to one of the main accents in the most recent exhibition of the Vytautas the Great War Museum “Reborn after the destruction” – the Lithuanian military flags (from the 15th century to these days).
For contemporary exhibitions, only information and exhibits presented in a classical way are not enough. Elements that make audience feel included and are interactive are becoming more and more important. The museum encourages the curious society living in the age of information technology to be interested in history, and thus, with the help of IT technologies and in cooperation with the KTU team of information technology specialists, has created interactive games for the exhibition of flags.
In the first game, a visitor may lay out flags assigned to individual historic personalities within a limited time. The ones that want to know more can open cards that contain information about each personality or flag. In the second game, we will see a map of Lithuania in which we will find the various military units marked with their own signs. The players not only collect points by laying out flags similar to the way domino blocks are laid out, but also get acquainted with the symbols of the military units and their attributes.
These computer games are a synthesis and knowledge tool for the development of historical knowledge and information technology.
