Music is a part of our life. People of all ages listen to music, only musical taste varies. We also love different kinds of music, so after long considerations we thought of giving the music a “shape”. We created it with the help of Ruben’s tube. This is a device that has a loudspeaker in one end and the other one is sealed. We let propane-butane gas in through the bottom of the tube. As the loudspeaker vibrates, a wave of sound propagates inside the tube, which compresses the gas several places and spreads out in the others. In this way, at the top of the tube there is a jolting fire, that is higher in some places and lower in the others. In this way we can “see” music. After we designed everything, we decided that we want to improve the project. In this way we expanded from one to three tubs of dancing fire.
Another way to “see” music is to filter out several music frequency ranges and pass them on to the coloured LED tape. It is also integrated in this project.
Another step in the development phase was to give this project a degree of intelligence. So we took a few microcontrollers, a touch screen, connected Bluetooth, and started programming. After many hours of hard work, we can eventually control the project and see some settings in the phone and the touch screen.
