Navigation and Visualization System for the Identification of Metal Objects

Technorama 2018

Nowadays, the highly developed digital electronics signal and image processing, wireless data transmission have allowed abandoning many invasive methods for detecting, researching and evaluating various objects. Sophisticated software makes it easy to analyse and visualize the results. The next step is to optimize the system that is under construction in terms of energy, mobility, price and accuracy.

A computer with “Matlab” software, connected on the finder frame with the help of video camera and a marker, creates a navigation and visualization system. The coordinates of the marker are determined using the image taken by the camera, processed with the “Matlab” software package. The “Matlab” program also graphically depicts the difference of the frequency obtained from a low-power microprocessor frequency meter via Wi-Fi connection. The microprocessor frequency meter module and the wireless connection module create an embedded system for measuring the frequency and transmitting the data via wireless connection. The harmonic oscillation generator (of “Colpitts” type) with a inductive reel, of a diameter of 18 cm, is used as a detector of metal objects, the frequency of which varies depending on the nature of the metal object that is its environment and the nature of the material (the ferromagnetic materials create reduces the frequency and diamagnetics increase it).
